It’s not easy being green. Kermit the frog said it first, but it still rings true today. In our daily lives we make many choices throughout the day that make a statement and have an impact on the world. While we can’t all be chaining ourselves to trees in the amazon, everyone should take a look at their daily consumption, and think about ways to consume less, or more importantly consume with a conscience. Here are a few ways to consume smart on a personal level and from a builder’s perspective.

1. Buy here! This translates for all goods and products, construction and building included. This can be difficult to apply on a grand scale, as we are a nation built on business and international commerce, but when we can buy local, an effort should be made to do so. The amount of fuel used in shipping products from other countries has a huge impact on our ozone layer. Support local businesses, and keep that carbon footprint to a small size.

2. Plastic is a problem- The production of most plastics is very toxic to us and the environment. Plastics are then thrown away and sit in landfills for centuries before decomposing and resurfacing in our water and food supply. And recently in the news, there appears to be a link between the consumption of water from plastic bottles and cancer. We should stay away from plastic products as much as possible. We have two great tips for this. Instead of buying bottled water, install a water filtration system. This is truly a great choice in a greener lifestyle. Composite decking is also great way to reuse plastic instead of putting it in landfills. Composite decking combines recycled plastic with wood to make a low maintenance durable decking material, that comes in a variety of colors and textures.

3. It’s all about Energy- One of the best ways for your home to be green is to make sure it is energy efficient! Making sure your entire home is properly caulked and sealed, will save the environment and your pocketbook from your heating and air conditioning use. Before you start you next home remodel, consider your energy consumption. Strategic window and skylight placement can cut down in lighting and heating/AC use, and installing ceiling fans instead of an AC unit will also cut down on energy use and is a greener choice. Description
As a General Contractor in San Diego, we have the pleasure to work with many different types of customers. From home owners, insurance companies, real estate agents, and property managers. And it is always our goal to provide a quality product and excellent customer service. When we receive positive feedback from our clients, it is proof that we are achieving our goals as a company. Here is a recent referral letter we wanted to share with you.

” To whom it may concern:

This letter is regarding Chad Arendsen and his company Chad of All Trades. First I want to say thank you to Chad and the whole team at COAT inc. for the service you have provided us over the past few years. Since we are a property management company we come across many contractors and see many things. Chad and his team have gone above my expectations and set the bar higher for other contractors when they walk through the door and try and get business.

I am writing this reference because Chad makes my job easier. His detailed invoices make it easier if I have to look up a past job or explain to an owner what was done. His office’s communication and organization with the tenant/owner and myself, frees up time for me so I don’t have to call people back and forth. His business ethics make me feel comfortable to recommend him to other companies and family members, which says a lot because then it is a reflection upon me if it does not turn out favorably. I am extremely happy with his company’s turn times, responsiveness, quality of work, accounting, business ethics, customer service , and most importantly his experience with and how to handle the many situations we come across in property management.

Chad’s team has been there for us and if you have any questions I would be happy to answer them so please call me or email because a letter does not justify how I perceive the company and why you should use them.

Respectfully,

Robert Algeo
