Some tips for designing a great deck in your outdoor living space:
1. Consider various materials and think in 3-D. Having different levels to a deck can really add dimension to a flat backyard. Incorporating decks into tiered yards is fun and functional.
2. Don’t forget railings and/or bench seating. They can provide more useable surface area and define spaces, allow for privacy or not, and serve as an accent piece for simple designs.
NO space is too big or too small, to add a “room without walls” to your outdoor living space.

Description
Chad Arendsen is many things. An accomplished builder, an innovative business person; and he has a great knack for building long term relationships with customers based on his dedication to them. Here is a a recent letter from one such client.

“Letter of Recommendation – Chad of All Trades
As a developer of commercial properties throughout Southern California, I have interacted with numerous contractors over the years. Having constructed in excess of three million square feet of commercial projects, I am well aware of contractor commitment and ability in all areas of the construction process. This letter of recommendation should not be taken lightly. I have only written such a letter once in my career.Short story: While remodeling my personal residence to surprise my wife who was shortly returning from a hospital stay, my regular contractors of many years ran into scheduling problems. Unable to provide sub-contractors to complete the job, at the recommendation of Gina Salyer, a Coldwell Banker real estate agent who had used Chad of All Trades personally as well as for her clients needs in the past, I called in Chad Arendsen to look over the situation. I had to leave town for a week and it is not like me at all to leave open ended decisions in a contractor’s control. It was important to me to have my wife return with the house completely redone as a sign of my commitment to her to encourage her recovery. I felt very comfortable with Chad from the start so I took a chance and hired him.Result:Chad turned the site into Extreme Makeover. Electricians, cabinetmakers, audio specialists, landscapers, floor finishers and workers all pulled together to get the job done. I returned home not expecting to have all the work completed, as I prioritized the tasks. To my surprise, all the work was finished. Audio outside, living room, front and rear yards, master bedroom surround sound, fireplace mantle, bookcases in the living room, bedroom and kitchen eating area, lighting on all of the art work, new landscaping, all done and done right. It would have been wonderful under normal time frames but to have my home turn out so beautiful in such a short time required an extraordinary effort and commitment by Chad. His dedication and work ethic is his greatest trait. I have complete confidence recommending Chad of All Trades to you. It’s always the man that counts. You can count on Chad and his word.Call me anytime at my office or on my personal cell, 858-229-7776. I will be glad to discuss my experience with you personally. No I am not getting paid for this!
Sincerely,

Living Green in San Diego, free tips for a green home, green building, home maintenance

Posted in Uncategorized by chadofalltradesinc on December 23, 2008
Description
It’s not easy being green. Kermit the frog said it first, but it still rings true today. In our daily lives we make many choices throughout the day that make a statement and have an impact on the world. While we can’t all be chaining ourselves to trees in the amazon, everyone should take a look at their daily consumption, and think about ways to consume less, or more importantly consume with a conscience. Here are a few ways to consume smart on a personal level and from a builder’s perspective.

1. Buy here! This translates for all goods and products, construction and building included. This can be difficult to apply on a grand scale, as we are a nation built on business and international commerce, but when we can buy local, an effort should be made to do so. The amount of fuel used in shipping products from other countries has a huge impact on our ozone layer. Support local businesses, and keep that carbon footprint to a small size.

2. Plastic is a problem- The production of most plastics is very toxic to us and the environment. Plastics are then thrown away and sit in landfills for centuries before decomposing and resurfacing in our water and food supply. And recently in the news, there appears to be a link between the consumption of water from plastic bottles and cancer. We should stay away from plastic products as much as possible. We have two great tips for this. Instead of buying bottled water, install a water filtration system. This is truly a great choice in a greener lifestyle. Composite decking is also great way to reuse plastic instead of putting it in landfills. Composite decking combines recycled plastic with wood to make a low maintenance durable decking material, that comes in a variety of colors and textures.

3. It’s all about Energy- One of the best ways for your home to be green is to make sure it is energy efficient! Making sure your entire home is properly caulked and sealed, will save the environment and your pocketbook from your heating and air conditioning use. Before you start you next home remodel, consider your energy consumption. Strategic window and skylight placement can cut down in lighting and heating/AC use, and installing ceiling fans instead of an AC unit will also cut down on energy use and is a greener choice. Stay cool this summer and look for more tips on green living in San Diego soon from Chad of ll Trades, Inc.

Referral of San Diego General contractor by Land trek property management

Description
As a General Contractor in San Diego, we have the pleasure to work with many different types of customers. From home owners, insurance companies, real estate agents, and property managers. And it is always our goal to provide a quality product and excellent customer service. When we receive positive feedback from our clients, it is proof that we are achieving our goals as a company. Here is a recent referral letter we wanted to share with you.

” To whom it may concern:

This letter is regarding Chad Arendsen and his company Chad of All Trades. First I want to say thank you to Chad and the whole team at COAT inc. for the service you have provided us over the past few years. Since we are a property management company we come across many contractors and see many things. Chad and his team have gone above my expectations and set the bar higher for other contractors when they walk through the door and try and get business.

I am writing this reference because Chad makes my job easier. His detailed invoices make it easier if I have to look up a past job or explain to an owner what was done. His office’s communication and organization with the tenant/owner and myself, frees up time for me so I don’t have to call people back and forth. His business ethics make me feel comfortable to recommend him to other companies and family members, which says a lot because then it is a reflection upon me if it does not turn out favorably. I am extremely happy with his company’s turn times, responsiveness, quality of work, accounting, business ethics, customer service , and most importantly his experience with and how to handle the many situations we come across in property management.

Chad’s team has been there for us and if you have any questions I would be happy to answer them so please call me or email because a letter does not justify how I perceive the company and why you should use them.

Respectfully,

Robert Algeo

San Diego home remodeling contractor and interior design, ranch and coast

Posted in Uncategorized by chadofalltradesinc on July 4, 2008

So you have been thinking and dreaming of remodeling and are wondering how turn those dreams  into a reality. What is the first step you should take? At Chad of All Trades, Inc. we believe that having a professional design your project with you, is integral to the success of your project timeline and budget, as well as directly tied to your peace and happiness during the process and with the finished product. By having a concrete design, you can take your project out to bid, and know that you are comparing apples to apples. There will be no room for ambiguity amongst contractors, when you have a clear plan, which means timelines should be able to be tightly fixed. Having a design plan also allows the contractor and client to understand what the desired effect is to be, and this will erradictate common miscommunications that can be quite frustruating for both parties. The project instead of being open ended and unclear, becomes more like fitting pieces of a puzzle together, fun and orderly. By having a plan and using a designer for your home remodleing project, you will save much time and stress, and when all math is added, you will also save money.

Chad of All Trades does not currently have an in house design department. However, we have a few top notch interior designers, architects, and engineers that we work with on a regular basis. We  can refer you to the right professional; to help turn your dreams into a reality.

One of these very talented people we have the pleasure to work with is Kari Arendsen, of Intimate Living Interiors based in Solana Beach in the well know Cedros design district. We have worked with Kari on numerous projects. Her sense of style and natural ease with colors and materials enables her to work with her clients to produce results that are creative, unique, and that reflect her clients personal taste. She has been featured in such local magazines as San Diego Home and Garden magazine( see link from sign on san diego that recaps the article). http://www.signonsandiego.com/uniontrib/20040502/news_1hs2showcase.html

More recently she has been featured in the home and garden section of the illustrious Ranch and Coast magazine for a complete home interior design that she worked with her client and now friend A.J. Feely( Quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles).

Chad of All trades, is also mentioned briefly in this article, as we were the contractor of choice for the remlodel portion of the project. We enjoyed being a part of this great project, and wanted to thank kari Arendsen and A.J. for choosing us to be a part of this amazing transformation.

Here is Kari’s contact info. for when you are ready to take the first step into executing your own remodel.

Chad of All Trades has a blast at Fiesta del Sol, Solana Beach

Posted in Uncategorized by chadofalltradesinc on June 10, 2008

The city of Solana Beach just concluded it’s 29th annual Fiesta Del Sol, and it couldn’t have been more fun!  From llama rides and the firestation’s dunk tank, arts and trade vendors, and great food and live music, our great city pulled out all the stops and delivered a fantastic family friendly, still dog friendly, summer celebration.  One of those trade vendors was Chad of All Trades, Inc. Chad and Amber Arendsen along with their children Jarrek and Jewel, call Solana Beach home and were excited to introduce this local and growing Home Remodel and Maintenance company to the community. The Coat Inc. team was out in force sharing with people the many quality and efficient services we provide to our customers, other businesses and the construction industry. We enjoyed meeting many other local vendors, and providing educational content at our booth, with our varied demonstrations. The COAT, Inc. mascot Sunny the goldendoodle, was also available to meet and greet all the fiesta goers, and worked hard to get a pet from everyone.

Thanks to the entire Chad of All Trades team, who gave their energy and time to help make COAT’s presence at Fiesta Del Sol a great success.  We look forward to a great summer filled with continued innnovation and service in the home improvement industry. We of course look forward to more Fiesta Del Sol’s in the coming years.
